21 October 2020At least 70 works were damaged in an attack on some of the buildings on Berlin's Museum Island.

This was reported by the German daily Bild specifying that the episode took place last October 3, on the day of the anniversary of German reunification.

Until now, no news had been given by either the police or the museums.

In detail, the Pergamonmuseum, the Neues Museum and the Alte Nationalgalerie were impressed.

The pieces of the exhibited collections were scarred with an oily liquid.

"This is one of the most glaring attacks on works of art and antiquities in postwar German history," wrote Die Zeit, which first broke the news.

Among the objects affected, Egyptian sarcophagi, stone sculptures and 19th century paintings.

The substance used left visible marks.

According to the newspaper Der Tagesspiegel, all visitors who had access to the museums on 3 October were tracked down to contribute to the investigation.

The only suspect at the moment, according to Bild, is Attila Hildmann, 39, believed to be a conspiracy theorist and has repeatedly claimed the presence of the "throne of Satan" in the Pergamonmuseum in Berlin.
