It was confirmed that the hacking incident that occurred at the opening of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics was the responsibility of a Russian military intelligence agency.

The US Department of Justice has identified and prosecuted six main offenders.

On February 9, 2018, the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics was held.




Twenty minutes before the opening ceremony, access to the website of the organizing committee occurred, and about 50 related servers such as the organizing committee and sponsor companies were destroyed.



For this reason, more than 50 services such as sales of admission tickets, management of athletes' villages and uniforms were disrupted for nearly 12 hours.



It is one of the malicious files used at the time.



It looks like a document sent by a government department, but analysis with a specialized program reveals numerous hidden macro commands.



Opening a file creates additional malicious files, stealing or deleting information, and destroying the entire system.



The US Department of Justice says the hacking was the work of the special organization '74455' of the Russian Army Reconnaissance Office.



During the PyeongChang Olympics, when the government-led doping was banned from the use of the flag of the Russian squad, they indicted six former and current Russian officers, claiming to have attacked as a retaliation.



The French presidential election in 2017 and the hacking of the Ukrainian power grid in 2015 were all revealed by their actions.
