The UAE renews its continued commitment to support the Palestinian people

The Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem bint Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, affirmed that the UAE is one of the first countries to provide support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, "UNRWA", for its belief in the role the agency plays in improving the lives of Palestinian refugees, based on the UAE's permanent commitment And historical and solidarity towards the Palestinian people, in a way that contributes to maintaining regional security and stability.

This came during a meeting with Al-Hashemi, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, "UNRWA", Philip Lazzarini.

During the meeting, Al-Hashemi indicated the need for cooperation, especially in such circumstances, which witness the spread of the "Covid-19" pandemic, which requires more support in all sectors, especially the health sector, to support about 5.6 million Palestinian refugees throughout the Middle East region.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al-Hashemi appreciated the relentless efforts made by the Commissioner-General of "UNRWA" and all employees of the Agency, to ensure the continuity of the Agency's work in providing its services to Palestinian refugees in the fullest manner.

Al-Hashemi affirmed the UAE’s commitment to fulfilling its humanitarian duty to support urgent humanitarian issues around the world, and its continued standing by the Palestinian people, contributing to the provision of basic services such as education, and continuing to work with international partners and relevant United Nations institutions in this field.

It is noteworthy that the UAE provided the Palestinians during the period from 2013 to 2020 in support of more than 840 million US dollars, and from them UNRWA obtained more than 218 million US dollars, including 166 million dollars for the education sector, and 19 million dollars in commodity aid and programs for services. The UAE chairs the current session of the UNRWA Advisory Commission, which aims during its presidency 2020-2021 to focus on key areas such as the digitization of education, the empowerment of women and girls, youth empowerment and environmental sustainability.
