  According to reports, David Walker, Chairman of the General Council of the World Trade Organization, recently announced: "The last round of consultations will begin on October 19 and will last until October 27."

  Walker has said that during this period, members will still adopt secret consultations to select the new WTO Director-General from the two candidates.

Subsequently, the WTO General Council will approve the candidate for the new Director-General, and the final result is expected to be produced in early November.

  In May, Azevedo, the sixth director-general of the World Trade Organization, decided to leave early at the end of August.

In July, a total of 8 candidates were formally nominated and run for the WTO Director-General.

  After two rounds of consultations, Walker announced on October 8 that the new director-general will be selected from the Nigerian candidate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the South Korean candidate Yu Mingxi.

  The WTO issued a press release stressing that the seventh director-general of the organization will be determined to be a woman, which has no precedent in its 25-year history.

  According to previous reports, Okonjo-Iweala served as Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, during which he demonstrated reform courage and clever negotiation skills.
