The Gürtel judge who wrote the sentences against the PP asks the CGPJ for protection against the "attacks" of the press

The judge of the National High Court who wrote the harshest sentences against the PP in the Gürtel case sentence has asked the General Council of the Judiciary for protection against the journalistic attacks that he says he is suffering.

The magistrate José Ricardo de Prada wants the CGPJ to require

-that seems to be the order of gravity- so that "immediately they cease" in this "disturbing" action of their independence.

And that they publish a rectification of the "humiliating" information.

"I see the need to denounce the press campaign carried out by certain journalists and the media, in a coordinated manner, against me, affecting my professional indemnity and seriously disturbing and disturbing my judicial independence, in my capacity as a member of the magistrate of the court that issued the first sentence, and that I perceive as pressure and retaliation for my jurisdictional action in the aforementioned matter, "he stated in his letter to the Council.

It adds that it considers that it has been "chosen as a scapegoat judge on which to elaborate an interested account with which to undermine the meaning, credibility and validity of a judicial decision that they consider unfavorable to the interests they represent, with manifest disregard for the truth, and abuse of the right to information and freedom of expression ".

According to the magistrate, he has been accused of being "responsible for improper mentions" in the judgment of the National High Court that condemned the PP as a lucrative participant in the

"The sentence of the instance is personalized in me, profusely reproducing my image in the indicated media, as the magistrate who caused the motion of censure, making me part of a political-judicial plot".

Last week the Supreme Court endorsed the sentences handed down in that court ruling, which had a private vote in which it lamented the excesses contained in the resolution, drawn up by De Prada.

The Supreme Court also endorsed the sentence against the PP, although it highlighted that this sentence to return money implied that the formation was not aware of the crime.

He added that it was inescapable to place the PP in the story of the crime, because it was the connection between everything, but that in the sentence he had to have refrained from attributing illegal actions, since he was not being accused and could not defend himself.
