• Reform: The PP proposes that the Courts elect the CGPJ from a broad list raised by the judges

  • Justice: Sánchez's judicial coup will also give him total control of 75% of the Constitutional Court in 2022

Pablo Casado presented his bill on Monday to "depoliticize Justice" and change the election system for the 20 members of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).

The main objective of the reform is "that the judges elect the judges" in the future, and he has insisted on his red line for "the current process" of renewal: that Podemos is "out" of the negotiations.

The president of the PP has pointed out, in a press conference, that his proposal will bet, as EL MUNDO exclusively advanced, that the judicial career makes a prior screening by means of "guarantees" or "impulse of the associations" of judges.

That is to say, that a broad list of pre-candidate judges for the CGPJ councils be raised to the Chambers and that the parties vote among those shortlisted, because it is about "a parliamentary agreement" between the groups, and not between the Government and the PP .

The "counter-reform" of the PP seeks to neutralize the proposed law of the PSOE and United We Can so that the members are elected by an absolute majority, and not by three-fifths of the Chambers.

In addition, Casado has assured that his initiative "proposes" that "all decisions of the CGPJ" are adopted by a "reinforced majority of three fifths."

The text of the PP also seeks to "depoliticize" the election of the State Attorney General, and asks "to prohibit people who have held political positions from attending" the eight positions of the CGPJ that are elected by the turn of jurists.

Also, the 'popular' demand "that the reports of the CGPJ have to be done for any reform" of the Judicial Power, contrary to what has happened with the initiative of the PSOE and United We Can.

And that the regional assemblies cannot appoint members of the Superior Courts of Justice.

Precisely, on that proposition, Casado has commented: "Nobody pressures me, least of all someone like Pedro Sánchez."

For Casado, reversing this reform is vital for European reconstruction funds to reach Spain.

And he has defended that Brussels has stopped Sánchez thanks to the efforts he made in Brussels.

In his opinion, it is "the attempt to occupy the State institutions", as has happened "in the State Attorney General's Office", placing "a socialist" like Dolores Delgado, or in the CNMC, RTVE, the commission on the CNI, the dome of the Civil Guard or "with the attacks of the vice presidency of Podemos to the head of the Government," Casado said.

"Not everything goes", he stressed.

Asked about Vox's motion of censure, Casado has made a long change: "I am not going to spend a minute on such minor issues."

"Our position was fixed weeks ago," he said, despite the fact that the PP has not yet officially decided whether to abstain or vote no.
