The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is "on the verge of bankruptcy", worry the Catholic bishops, members of the national episcopal conference of Congo (Cenco), very upset against the coalition in power for twenty months.

In their message made public, this Monday, October 19, at the end of their plenary assembly, the prelates painted in black the attitude of the Front Commun pour le Congo (FCC) of Joseph Kabila and Cap pour le Change (CACH) of Félix Tshisekedi , two coalitions whose tensions block, according to the prelates, the institutions and worsen the recession.
As usual, the tone of the bishops is firm but this time, they do not hide their disappointment.

While the country is on the verge of bankruptcy and at a time when the Congolese languish in indescribable misery aggravated by the Covid-19, the allies in power are devoting their energies to positioning calculations in relation to the 2023 elections in order to conserve or to regain power
”, declared their spokesperson, Father Donatien N'shole, reading the message entitled“
Congolese people, let us not let our sovereignty be stolen
”.

The bishops of Cenco speak of the obsession with "
power for
the sake of
power
" which "
amounts to confiscating the sovereignty
" of the people.
They announced that “
the hour has come for us to stand up and walk in the light
”.

Let us wake up from our sleep for a civic engagement
", they launched in their message.
The message was unveiled in the presence of some civil society movements including the secular coordination committee which had organized popular waves against the regime of Joseph Kabila.
The ecclesiastics denounce a deleterious security situation against a background of rising tribalism, and a declining economy.
In any case, for the bishops, with this tandem in power, the situation is going from bad to worse.
