The Dubai Public Prosecution referred two Arab suspects working for a national bank in the country to the Criminal Court, for having committed a felony of exploiting their jobs and seizing 70 thousand dirhams from the funds of the institution in which they work.

The Chief Prosecutor of the Public Funds Prosecution in Dubai, Counselor Salem Ahmed bin Khadim, said, “The first accused works as a collector at a bank, and used his job to receive monetary fines collected from departing travelers for the benefit of the government body, in seizing an amount of 41 thousand and 164 dirhams. And he left the country, which caused damage to the institution in which he works.

He added, "The second accused works as a collector in the payments department at the same bank branch at Dubai International Airport, and used his job to receive cash fines collected from departing travelers in seizing an amount of 28,220 dirhams from the proceeds of those fines instead of depositing them with the bank."

Bin Khadim added that the Public Prosecution referred the defendants to the Criminal Court on charges of committing a felony of seizing money belonging to a public institution, and intentionally harming the funds and interests of the entity they work for, which is punishable in accordance with the Federal Penal Code and its amendments.

He pointed out that the Public Prosecution requested the severity of the punishment, so that they would be an example for those who begged him to exploit his public office and seize the money in his custody, in addition to the Public Prosecution's keenness to apply amendments to the law that increase the punishment for crimes committed by public officials or those charged with public service as one of the means Deterrent to those crimes.
