INTERVIEW

Two days after the death of a history teacher, beheaded after showing caricatures of Muhammad to his students as part of a course on freedom of expression, Patrick Peloux was the guest of the special edition of Europe 1, dedicated to culture and freedom of expression.

The emergency physician and former Charlie Hebdo collaborator pointed out the harmful role of social networks, which fuels hatred and violence.

"We cannot let social networks become the trash can of everything, the sewers of intelligence. We cannot leave rumors, death threats, calls for rape there. It is not possible! the legislator takes back the right on the social networks ", he exclaimed.

"We have to change gear"

Patrick Pelloux notably cited the example of Zineb El Rhazoui, journalist at Charlie Hebdo until 2016: "she is threatened and we can not do anything", he said.

"When you see Youtube having fun leaving images of beheadings on its networks, Daesh propaganda, Al Qaeda propaganda, it is not possible. We have to change gear because there, we lost, "he continued.

Images of the massacre that took place in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine on Friday were posted on Twitter and remained online for several hours.
