18 October 2020The nationalist Ersin Tatar, strongly supported by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is the new president of the Turkish separatist republic of Northern Cyprus, recognized only by Ankara.



In today's ballot, Tatar got 51.7% of the votes, defeating the outgoing Mustafa Akinci, moderate and pro-reunification, for some time on the ropes with Erdogan, who stopped at 48.3%.

The turnout was 67.3%.
