Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs: UN’s five-year arms embargo on Iran is automatically lifted today

[Global Network reporter Guo Xiaopeng] On October 18, local time, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement stating that the five-year arms embargo imposed by the United Nations on Iran was automatically lifted on Sunday.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in this statement: “As of today, the restrictions on Iran’s arms transportation, other related activities and financial services, as well as the previous ban on the entry or transit of certain Iranian citizens and officers from the United Nations member states have been all Dismissed automatically."

In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany.

According to the agreement, Iran promised to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

The UN Security Council subsequently passed Resolution 2231, approving the Iran nuclear agreement.

According to Resolution No. 2231, the arms embargo on Iran will end on October 18, 2020.

The United States subsequently proposed a draft resolution to try to extend the arms embargo on Iraq indefinitely unless the Security Council makes a new resolution to lift the embargo.

In the end, the US draft resolution was not passed.
