As Sarsisyan noted, in 1994 Armenia suspended the process of recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh in order to resolve the issue of its "final status" during negotiations.

“Armenia’s non-recognition of independence is connected only with the fact that the Armenian side wants to resolve the issue through peaceful negotiations.

This is such a tunnel.

And if at the end of this tunnel there is light - the light of the final peaceful solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem - then we can wait a little longer, ”he explained.

At the same time, Sargsyan added that if Azerbaijan "in no case follows the path of negotiations", then Armenia will recognize the independence of Karabakh.

“The agreements that were reached in Moscow can start working if both sides want them to work ... Now, if the Azerbaijani side announces that they are ready for a truce and are ready to continue negotiations, then there is hope.

I would really like the light at the end of the tunnel not to go out, ”the Armenian President said.

He stressed that otherwise, the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh could turn into "a much more tragic and large-scale war."

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the "red line" for Armenia is the right to self-determination of Karabakh.

At the same time, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev called the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan "a red line" for Baku.

He noted that "under no circumstances will Azerbaijan give consent to the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh."

Azerbaijan and Armenia announced a temporary humanitarian truce from 00:00 on October 18.

The parties later accused each other of violating the truce.
