The Guinean Minister of Defense has just confirmed the death of Colonel Mamady Condé via a Facebook post by the director of the DIRPA.
"
Armed men opened fire on the grounds of the camp
", he declared, but he assures us that "
the situation is under control
".
The Somoreyah camp houses the Gangan battalion, whose men are deployed in the Kidal region in Mali, as part of the Minusma.
On the exact circumstances of the colonel's death, it is advisable to remain extremely careful.
The versions diverge and there is nothing to confirm them.
The national road would be blocked and a prison would have been attacked.
Anyway, access to Kaloum, downtown Conakry was immediately blocked this Friday morning.
Since then, the system has been lightened and the roadblocks filter the entrances and simply search vehicles.
End of campaign disrupted
Incidents reminiscent of those which occurred the day before the highly contested double legislative and referendum polls of March 22.
Similar events had been reported under equally unclear conditions.
In any case, they are already having an impact
on the opposition's
electoral campaign
for this last day.
At Cellou Dalein Diallo's UFDG, they say they are suspending all activities as a precaution.
Sidya Touré's UFR, which boycotted the ballot, said its president was subjected to intimidation at his home overnight.
Surprisingly, these events do not seem to worry the RPG, the ruling party too much.
