Turkish intelligence officials have arrested a person suspected of spying on Arabs in Turkey for the benefit of the United Arab Emirates, according to Reuters reported on Friday.
The agency quoted a senior security official, who requested anonymity, as saying that the suspect had confessed to the authorities.
The official said that the suspect - who did not reveal his identity - came to Turkey with a non-Emirati passport, but the Turkish authorities obtained from him a "set of hidden documents" that show his links to the Emirates.
He added that he had "penetrated the networks of Arab dissidents and journalists for years."
The agency indicated that there was no immediate comment from the UAE authorities.
Last year, the Turkish authorities arrested two men for spying on Arabs, including political figures in exile and students, for the benefit of the UAE.
An official at the time said that one of the two men was linked to the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018. According to the Turkish prosecutor, one of the detainees committed suicide in his prison.
