  • From December 1st, children under 12 will be able to travel for free on the Star network in Rennes.

  • Those under 26 will also benefit from a 25% to 33% reduction in their subscription price.

  • For the elected officials of the metropolis, this is "a strong social and environmental measure".

In the midst of a health and economic crisis, Rennes families will be able to benefit from a little boost in their purchasing power.

Meeting Thursday evening at the Rennes Métropole council, elected officials adopted the new public transport price list which will come into force from December 1.

On that date, children under 12 will be able to travel for free on the Star network, compared to 6 years old today.

To board buses and subways, children over 5 years old must however have a Korrigo card on which families can load a free pass.

Those under 26, who represent a third of the metropolitan population, will also see the price of their subscription drop in a month and a half.

The price of the monthly subscription will thus be reduced by 25% and that of the annual subscription by 33%.

"This represents a saving of 100 euros over one year for a young person from 12 to 17 years old and of 110 euros for the 18-26 age group", assures Matthieu Theurier, vice-president of the metropolis in charge of transport, estimating that it is “a strong social and environmental measure”.

A simplified price range

A measure which however has a cost for the community which will have to take care of "a non-receipt of the order of 3.5 to 4 million euros per year", specifies the elected ecologist.

A review clause is also planned in 2024 between the community and the operator to discuss, if finances allow, a further reduction or total free access.

"Bloated and not very visible", the Star's price range will also be simplified with the elimination of many intermediate tickets.

For subscriptions, users will thus no longer have the choice between a monthly pass or an annual pass, whereas they can now charge their card for two, five or nine months.

Some passes will also disappear like the two, four and five day passes.
