The investigation into these facts, which took place around 5:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. UT), was opened for assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise and criminal terrorist association, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office (Pnat) told AFP.

The police of the criminal brigade of Conflans Saint-Honorine, about fifty km north-west of Paris, were called for a suspicious individual prowling around a school, according to this source.

On the spot, the police discovered the victim and 200 meters further, in the town of Eragny, they tried to stop a man carrying a knife who threatened them and fired at him, seriously injuring him .

A security perimeter was installed and the demining service called, due to a suspicion of an explosive vest.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, traveling to Morocco, decided to return to Paris immediately.
