The federal coordinator of IU, Alberto Garzón, joins his path to that of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), with whom he has agreed that the political line for the next four years is to deepen the organizational integration with Podemos.

Despite the noises that predicted an unchecking of the general secretary of the PCE,

Enrique Santiago

, the leadership of the United Left will raise a "Political and Organizational Document" for the XII assembly (January 15 and 16) prepared by Garzón in alliance with the PCE.

This was advanced to the

Efe Agency by

the Secretary of Organization of IU,

Ismael González

.

"It will work with the PCE and most of the federations" the future direction, he says, with which there will almost certainly be an integration list.

The negotiation has not concluded and the deadline to present it is extended until December - initially it was established this Saturday as a limit - with the intention of negotiating it with the different sectors and IU federations.

In this way, the communists' general secretary facilitates Alberto Garzón's continuity as federal coordinator, who in practice assumes the PCE's postulate of "overcoming the United Left" to build "a new political subject."

Santiago, a very close person and totally trusted by the leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, is already working to reinforce the organic unity between both formations, advances in which Garzón shunned to consolidate leadership and an alternative visibility to that of Iglesias.

Political strengthening

Garzón's relationship with the second vice president was damaged after the failure of the negotiation with the PSOE for the investiture of Sánchez last summer, according to

several IU sources

admit to

Efe

.

But the road to unity seems to have no going back.

"We are committed to strengthening the United Left as a political and social movement to strengthen the joint space of convergence," includes the management document, which today will be approved by the Federal Coordinator, the party's highest executive body.

In that text, to which

Efe

has had access

, it is noted that "one of the main objectives" of the XI assembly has not been met: to overcome "the party dynamics of the different forces in the joint space."

And it marks the roadmap to go one step further, "from the electoral coalition to popular unity."

IU, yes, points out a shortcoming: Podemos must advance in "democratization."

For this reason, IU proposes "that there be internal coordination similar to that of a coalition, with truly democratic functioning", to advance in integration, with respect for the autonomy of all parties, but is willing to advance in the coordination of the direction in all areas, also local and regional.

Articulation of alliances

Despite claiming its trajectory, it maintains its commitment to converge with Podemos and defines itself not so much as a party but as a "political and social movement."

And it defends that the reason for being of IU in its 34 years is "the articulation of alliances."

By virtue of the pact with the PCE, the Minister of Consumption has a clear path to revalidate his position, because at the moment there is only one alternative candidate: the former leader

José Antonio García Rubio

, from the sector opposed to allying with Podemos, with little support .

According to IU, they have 18,000-19,000 affiliates to the current payment, a similar figure to that of Podemos, where slightly less than 19,000 supporters have registered as "militants", who pay a fee, in the new census that has promoted the purple formation.
