The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority revealed that it completed more than 71.9 thousand samples to analyze the new Corona virus (Covid-19) during the three months (April, May, and June) in its laboratories using modern and integrated technologies. 85 minutes instead of four hours.

The authority announced that during the second quarter of this year, its inspectors conducted 58.2 thousand inspection visits to food, agricultural and animal facilities, confirming that it achieved a response rate of 100% of epidemiological reports related to livestock, as it was able to monitor 15 epidemic hotspots that were dealt with.

In detail, the authority stated that its laboratory department worked on developing a path for examination and analysis to detect infection with the emerging "Corona" virus (Covid-19) by introducing modern integrated technologies, which contributed to reducing the analysis period to 85 minutes, instead of four hours, what It represents an important achievement in addition to the authority's achievements in the field of biosecurity, especially as it raised the capacity of laboratories to reach more than 1000 samples per day, to support the efforts and precautionary measures taken by the state to limit the spread of the virus.

The authority confirmed, on its official website, that its laboratories completed 71,929 samples to analyze the new Corona virus tests during the second quarter of this year, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Health Department, as part of its efforts to confront the outbreak of the Corona pandemic within the country.

It also launched, in cooperation and coordination with the International Network of Authorities Concerned with Food Safety (INFOSAN), an integrated introductory document for the most important issues related to the virus and food and measures to prevent infection transmission in food establishments and when handling food, in order to enhance the awareness of the authorities concerned with food safety, food handlers and consumers of virus prevention practices. And raising the health level of food establishments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, to ensure the highest levels of food safety in the emirate, and to maintain safe and healthy food access to the community in all circumstances.

According to the authority, the document contributed to empowering the knowledge side of food workers and consumers, and enriching their experiences with correct food practices and precautionary measures to prevent the virus, along the production and supply chain, circulation and consumption stages.

She pointed out that the document provides answers to a wide range of questions related to the mechanism of dealing with food under exceptional circumstances, including important instructions and scientific recommendations for the World Health Organization and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and a summary of global experiences and experiences related to the safe handling of food, its consumption and live animals. And slaughtering them in slaughterhouses, stressing its keenness to consolidate its role in cooperation and coordination with the concerned authorities regarding the inclusion of food and biosecurity requirements in their plans, preparing and implementing the necessary plans to manage accidents, crises and emergencies related to the authority's mandate, and spreading awareness and educating various segments of society regarding agriculture and food safety.

According to the authority, the document includes 30 different topics that cover the procedures that workers must follow in food establishments of all kinds, such as managing workers in them and raising their health level through the use of preventive tools, the protocol followed in dealing with the presence of HIV infection, and the necessary procedures to ensure the safety of workers.

With regard to the authority's efforts at the supervisory and inspection level during the second quarter of this year, it indicated that the total number of inspection visits it conducted during this period amounted to 58,240 inspection visits, including 53,367 visits to food establishments, and three thousand and 722 visits to establishments Agricultural, 724 visits to animal facilities, 351 visits to markets and livestock pens, in addition to 76 visits to slaughterhouses.

She explained that it had examined 22 thousand and 55 food consignments that were examined, and conducted 112 thousand and 851 analyzes of 80 thousand and 585 samples, as the percentage of non-conforming samples of chemical and biological residues reached 22% of the total samples revealed during the second quarter of this year.

The authority also responded to 41 notifications of suspected food poisoning, noting that it achieved 100% in the efficiency rate of responding to epidemiological reports related to animal health, as during the aforementioned period it detected 15 epidemiological centers that were dealt with.

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority confirmed the continuation of its awareness campaigns targeting all segments of society, including workers in the field of food industries, food dealers and consumers, to provide health guidance and guidance to them in the stages of the food circulation chain, from receiving, storing, preparing, preparing, cooking, preserving and serving, in addition to awareness about Potential risks arising from wrong behaviors and practices in dealing with foodstuffs and foods inside the facility.
