The curfew established in Île-de-France and in eight French metropolises is not "a traffic ban", Emmanuel Macron explained to the French on Wednesday evening.

However, this regime applied from Saturday requires the population concerned to respect rules reminiscent of confinement.

Explanations.

DECRYPTION

This is the main announcement of the interview with Emmanuel Macron on the second wave of the coronavirus, Wednesday evening: curfews will be applied locally, from Saturday evening, in eight French metropolises and throughout the Island- of France.

This form of nighttime confinement will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., last at least four weeks and affect around 20 million residents.

Europe 1 explains what you can and cannot do when you live under this regime that is supposed to limit private meetings.

What you can continue to do

• Move freely between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

It goes without saying, but you will be able to move freely from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., because

no local confinement has yet been decreed

.

• Go on vacation or change region

You will be able to move freely throughout France, a much-awaited precision within ten days of the All Saints holidays: "We will not prevent people (...) from going on vacation," said the president.

"Asking people to stay at home in apartments and not go to a vacation spot, honestly, that would be disproportionate."

Coronavirus: what to remember from Emmanuel Macron's announcements

• Going to or coming back from work

Yes, you will be able to come to your workplace or return home after 9 p.m. if you return.

"We will continue to work. (…) Obviously, for all those who return from work at 9 pm or who work at night,

there will be an authorization

."

Ditto for "all those who have emergencies, for example health".

• Take transport at any time

Logical consequence of the possibility of going or coming back from work, "there will be

no restrictions on transport

" during the night curfew, assured Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday.

"There are people who will continue to work at night, or in the evening, or in the early morning," says Emmanuel Macron.

• Go to a restaurant, cinema or theater

The curfew does not imply the closure of social places such as restaurants or cinemas.

It will nevertheless be necessary to take precautions to be

able to return home for 9 pm

: this time does not correspond to the closing of these establishments, but to the moment when you must have stopped moving without authorization.

• Spend the evening (and the night) with someone else

The curfew regime differs from the confinement regime in that

it is not mandatory to stay at home

.

You can therefore visit friends or family members provided that

there before 21 hours

and

leave after 6:00

am.

And on condition, of course, to respect the barrier gestures.

On Wednesday evening, Emmanuel Macron insisted on the need to limit the number of guests to six.

What you won't be able to do anymore

• Be away from home between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., without justification

If you are not affected by the exemptions put in place by the executive, the police can issue you a ticket: "There will be checks and fines", promises Emmanuel Macron, with

a fine of 135 euros in violation

, such as not wearing a mask.

It will be

1,500 euros in the event of a repeat offense

.

The French were exemplary during the confinement, because they understood that it was to protect the most fragile and caring.

If we don't want to take harsher measures in 15 days or a month, there will be checks. "

• Exercise outdoors after 9 p.m.

Same rule as for "classic" outings:

jogging and cycling are possible between 6 am and 9 pm, but not at night

.

However, for the time being, it is not mandatory to wear the mask during the day when playing sports.

• Go to bars

The application of the curfew

does not imply the reopening of bars in high alert zones

.

These, if they do not offer food on site, will remain closed for at least four weeks in the territories concerned.

Details expected Thursday

Prime Minister Jean Castex and several ministers will detail the new measures at a press conference Thursday at 2 p.m.

This will particularly concern the curfew.
