The 3rd year internships, an ordeal for some, and vocations that are born or are confirmed for others.

These one-week internships in a company to take place during the third year will be “optional” this year due to the economic situation disrupted by the Covid, Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer announced on Wednesday.

Several senators wrote an open letter to the minister on Tuesday asking for "the cancellation of the obligation of this third internship" because, according to them, companies "do not have time to look into the many requests" in these times of economic crisis linked to Covid, Senator LR Laure Darcos explained to the Senate on Wednesday.

“The mandatory nature can be awkward this year due to economic circumstances.

I will therefore, in the very near future, respond favorably to the request that you make, ”replied Jean-Michel Blanquer.

"Optional but very desirable"

We are going to make the third year internship "optional but very desirable and when it does not take place, complement this with initiatives in terms of guidance and information", he detailed.

He mentioned the possibility for these third year students to follow “video modules, training on the world of work, orientation possibilities”.

"In the recent past, we have taken initiatives (...) to offer more than 30,000 internships to students who have no possibilities through their own network and we will continue to do so, we will be proactive", promised The Minister.

“A few years ago, that did not exist (internships), now everyone is used to seeing young students for whom it is a first experience of the world of work, it is positive, we are there. let's all hold on and we want it to consolidate and last, ”he said.
