Regarding the new EPA = Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Kingdom, the Japanese and British governments have entered into final coordination with Foreign Minister Motegi to sign the agreement with Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who will visit Japan next week.

The government plans to submit a bill requesting approval of the agreement to the extraordinary Diet session and aim for approval within the session.

The UK's new EPA = Economic Partnership Agreement following the withdrawal of the UK from the EU = European Union reached a general agreement last month in ministerial talks between Foreign Minister Motegi and International Trade Minister Truss, and the two governments signed the agreement. We have been working on legal confirmation of the agreement.



As a result, on the 23rd of this month, Minister Motegi and Minister of International Trade Truss entered into final adjustments to sign an agreement in Tokyo.



After signing, the government will submit a bill requesting approval of the agreement to the extraordinary Diet session scheduled to be convened on the 26th of this month, aiming for approval within the session.



At a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Minister Motegi said, "Japan is gaining profits under the EPA with the EU," based on the fact that the "transition period" associated with the UK's departure from the EU is until the end of the year. It is important to continue to ensure the business continuity of Japanese companies. We would like to aim for the entry into force on January 1, next year. "
