The doctor and TV presenter Marina Carrère d'Encausse is exasperated at Anna Roumanoff's microphone about France's delay in the use of cannabis for therapeutic purposes, compared to other European countries.

The first experiments planned for this year are postponed to 2021. France is therefore still far from the large-scale use of therapeutic cannabis, in the treatment of pain and certain pathologies.

A delay that worries the doctor Marina Carrère d'Encausse, guest of

"It's time"

For the doctor and TV host, this French delay does not make sense.

"It's time to do it, medical cannabis," she asserts.

"It's really amazing that we have differed so much, when most European countries use it."

Medicinal cannabis is now used in some countries against diseases such as Parkinson's or multiple sclerosis.

"But also in the treatment of pain in cancer patients, when the drugs no longer work," she adds.

"It is a treatment that also works very well for neuropathic pain."

A risky situation today

Marina Carrère d'Encausse is also exasperated by the unverified speeches on the risks of a treatment already widespread in Europe.

"It is a scandal that we are also late and cautious on this issue," she insists.

"No one who uses medical cannabis is going to take heroin the next day. We have to stop the nonsense."

The doctor warns about the risks that some patients take because of this ban.

"Today, patients are forced to ask their grandchildren to go buy them and they smoke, which is a risk for the lungs," she recalls.

"While the forms that are used in medical cannabis (herbal teas, oils, etc.) do not exhibit side effects."

The test phase in France will not start until March 2021.
