It is noted that Borrell informed Lavrov of the agreement reached between the foreign ministers of the EU countries "to continue the current approach to relations between the EU and Russia, according to which the key remains the full implementation of the Minsk agreements."

"The EU High Representative confirmed that the European Union wishes to maintain open channels of communication with Russia and expand cooperation on issues of mutual interest," the message says.

Borrell also told Lavrov that the EU had reached a political agreement on the preparation of sanctions in connection with the situation around Alexei Navalny.

He called on the Russian side to investigate.

Borel also thanked Lavrov for his efforts in negotiating a ceasefire agreement in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In addition, the head of the EU diplomacy announced the preparation of a new package of EU sanctions on Belarus, including against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Lavrov and Borrell discussed the situation around Belarus, the settlement in Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh.
