The Swedish Riksbank's prize in economic science in memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded in 1968, on the occasion of the Riksbank's 300th anniversary.

The award ceremony will take place on December 10, on the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death.

The prize can be shared by a maximum of three recipients.

The winners are announced every year in mid-October on the Academy's and the Nobel Foundation's websites immediately after they have been nominated.

Esther Duflo is the youngest winner so far.

She was 46 years old when she was awarded the prize in 2019. The oldest is Leonid Hurwicz.

He was 90 years old when he received the award in 2007.

Elinor Ostrom was the first woman ever to receive the award in 2009. Esther Duflo became the second female winner.
