  • 12-O. Pablo Iglesias sets as a "fundamental task" to end the Monarchy in Spain

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and his right hand in the Executive, Pablo Iglesias, have been received with a powerful whistle upon their arrival at

the Royal Palace

to attend the military parade on the occasion of the National Holiday on October 12.

Despite

Moncloa's

attempts to

avoid the proximity of the protest, the beeps and insults were clearly heard upon arrival.

Thousands of people gathered next to the Royal Palace, on Bailén Street, to, in addition to shouting against the Government, chanting slogans in favor of the King and the Crown.

The coronavirus has marked this year the commemoration of the National Day, October 12.

The events have been reduced to an austere act in the

Patio de la Armería of the Royal Palace

.

This year, neither parades of the Armies nor reception in the Royal Palace by the monarchs to the authorities.

For this reason, the act has also served to pay tribute to all those who have served in the fight against the pandemic, as evidenced by the presence of members of the National Police Corps, the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Summa, the Emergency and Rapid Response Team of the Community of Madrid (Ericam), the Corps of Forest Agents of the region, the Samur, the Municipal Police of Madrid and the Fire Department, both from the City Council and the Community of Madrid.

The

leitmotif

of this celebration is

'The effort that unites us'

, in reference to the fight against the pandemic and in recognition of all those who have acted and continue to act against it.

Coldness and tension

Despite the austere nature of the event, the day was intense and full of tension.

Since this Sunday, during the preparations for the event, from Moncloa they worked to launch a deployment that would minimize a possible popular protest upon the arrival of the Prime Minister,

Pedro Sánchez

, to the events called, trying to get away from the area ' hotter ', the camera shots and the microphones.

But also the arrival of the vice president, Pablo Iglesias, had worried the organizers.

It is the first time that the president, the vice president and the King coincide in an event of the scope of October 12, of the National Holiday.

And that after Podemos unleashed a campaign against King Felipe VI.

So the security device deployed has been very important and visual.

But, in addition, for the first time, these events are held after the Government has decided to impose the state of alarm in

Madrid

, with significant differences in criteria with the autonomous community and a powerful confrontation between the Government and opposition parties .

'Long live the King', 'Sánchez resignation', 'Government resignation', 'murderers', 'long live Spain', were the shouts most chanted by those attending the events for the National Holiday.

Sánchez exchanged cold greetings with the president of the Madrid community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the mayor of Madrid, Martínez-Almeida, attended practically the entirety of his government.

Before the event began, the political distance that Spain lives was visualized.

The members of the government of the PSOE and United We can together, around

Iván Redondo

and about twenty meters, the representatives of the PP, Ciudadanos and Vox.

Absolute remoteness.

The events were attended by a wide representation of autonomous residents, in addition to personalities from the State institutions.

Again, the Basque and Catalan nationalists withdrew from the call for the

National Holiday.

This is the first time that Podemos, which has always avoided sending its first swords to this event, is represented by its top leaders.

On that occasion, Pablo Iglesias and the rest of the ministers of the coalition attended the Royal Palace as members of the Executive.

The acts have been presided over by the Kings together with the

Princess of Asturias

and the

Infanta Sofía

.

The event has been reduced by security before the effects of the Covid.

Traditionally it consisted of an important military parade attended by thousands of Spaniards on the Paseo de la Castellana.

On this occasion, a discreet parade in the Patio de Armas of the Royal Palace.

The kings have been accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, vice presidents and ministers of the Executive, as well as by regional, local and military authorities.

Five absent presidents

Among the regional presidents, only those of

Catalonia

,

the Basque Country

, the

Balearic Islands

,

Aragón

and

Murcia

were missing

, which has decided in the last hours not to attend due to having recently had close contact with a positive for coronavirus.

The act consisted solely of a flag raising, a tribute to those who gave their lives for Spain, an awarding of decorations and a small land parade.

Only units located in Madrid have participated, with the exception of La Legión which, on the occasion of its centenary, is having a special role.

Specifically, in the military parade, 527 troops have participated;

a Music Unit and eight sections corresponding to the Royal Guard, the Central Defense Academy, the Regiment "Inmemorial del Rey" nº1, the Marine Corps Grouping, the Air Force Honors Squadron, the Military Emergency Unit , the Civil Guard Reserve and Security Group, and La Legión.

In addition, the Eagle Patrol made its traditional pass during the tribute to the fallen.
