China News Agency, Johannesburg, October 11 (Reporter Wang Xi) On October 10, local time in South Africa, the former vice chairman of the South African Human Rights Commission and a well-known human rights lawyer, Priscilla Jana, passed away at the age of 76.

Regarding her death, Pule Mabe, spokesperson for the ANC, the ruling party in South Africa, issued a statement saying that at a very young age, Jana realized the cruelty and injustice of the apartheid system through personal experience. She later joined the ANC and embarked on the road of national liberation movement and laid the foundation.

Throughout her life, Jana made outstanding contributions to South Africa. Her death caused the South African Liberation Movement and the South African people to lose one of their most outstanding daughters.

"Unlike the pursuit of personal wealth and material life, Jana dedicated her life to the people of South Africa and the liberation movement."

Jana was one of the defense lawyers of the late former South African President Mandela while in custody. In addition, she served as a defense lawyer for many leaders of the South African National Liberation Movement, including Jeanne Mandela.

After the end of apartheid, she served as a member of the South African Parliament, South Africa’s ambassador to the Netherlands and Ireland, and served as the vice chairman of the South African Human Rights Commission.

She also actively spoke for the South African national liberation fighter Solomon Karush Malangu, so that the international community re-understood the truth about the execution of Malangu by the apartheid regime in South Africa.
