Study: "Corona" can stay on banknotes 4 weeks

A recent study revealed that the emerging corona virus can stay on banknotes for four weeks.

The study issued by the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness and Disease Control indicated that the virus may remain contagious for weeks on banknotes, glass and other common surfaces, according to what Bloomberg News reported on Sunday.

The study revealed that the virus can survive for 28 days on smooth surfaces such as glass on mobile phone screens and plastic banknotes at room temperature, or 20 ° C (68 ° F).

This compares to a 17-day stay for the influenza virus.

"Our results show that the virus can remain contagious on surfaces for extended periods, which reinforces the need for good practices such as regular hand washing and surface disinfection," said Deputy Director Deby Eagles.
