Poverty reduction exceeds 50 million: my country is about to achieve the goal of all rural poor people out of poverty
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, October 11 (Reporter Hou Xuejing) Before the National Day this year, the Yi people, Shama Zuoye, moved to Muendi community, a resettlement site for poverty alleviation in Zhaojue County, Sichuan.
Around the new home, garment factories, mask factories, and plastic steel factories have been built. Outside the city, there is the largest agricultural industrial park in Panxi, Sichuan. A special labor transport vehicle to Guangdong is carrying young people to the distance.
Like Shama Zuoye, during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, more than 50 million rural poor people in my country were lifted out of absolute poverty.
The incidence of poverty dropped from 4.5% in 2016 to 0.6% in 2019, and overall regional poverty has basically been resolved.
During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, the income of the poor in my country has increased substantially.
According to the data on the establishment of the national poor population file, the per capita net income of the national filed poor population increased from 4124 yuan in 2016 to 9057 yuan in 2019, an average annual increase of 30%.
The quality of the poor people's "two no worries" has been significantly improved, and the outstanding problems of the "three guarantees" have been solved overall.
During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, the income structure of my country's poor population was further optimized, and the ability to escape poverty steadily increased.
The poor have been lifted out of poverty mainly through employment and productive labor. The proportion of labor income has increased year by year, while the proportion of non-labor income has decreased year by year, and the sustainability of income growth has steadily improved.
During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, my country has promoted poverty alleviation with unprecedented intensity and scale. It holds seminars every year to win the poverty alleviation battle, and deploys poverty alleviation goals and tasks in response to different problems at different stages. The remarkable results and far-reaching impact are unprecedented and rare in the world, creating a miracle in the history of human poverty reduction.
After the completion of the comprehensive poverty alleviation goal this year, China will achieve the poverty reduction goal of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, at the recently held online seminar on the “United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and China’s Poverty Reduction Experience”, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that China’s extraordinary development process has been achieved globally. The United Nations Millennium Development Goals have made a huge contribution.
