A black man, tied to a rope and taken to a US police station in a look reminiscent of a black slave, filed a lawsuit against the police for massive damages.

Donald Neely, a 44-year-old black man, filed a lawsuit against the Galveston Police Department in Texas and the city of Galveston, claiming compensation for damages of $1 million (1,152.5 million won). Reported.

According to a Galveston County court, Neely was arrested in August by an equestrian police officer on charges of trespassing.

At the time of the incident, two white officers had no immediate patrol car to convoy, so they handcuffed Neely, tied a rope back to his wrist, and dragged him to the police station one block away.

Neely walked on the road after the policeman on horseback with both hands tied behind him.

This scene evoked social resentment, reminiscent of a black slave captured while fleeing abuse in the United States in the past, and Galveston police apologized, saying, "The two officers made the wrong decision."

At the time of the incident, Neely said, "I suffered mental pain such as shame, humiliation, and fear because of the extreme and shocking behavior of the two policemen."

Neely also criticized the police for malicious indictment, saying that the alleged trespassing that the police applied was eventually dismissed at the court.

Neely is calling for a jury trial on the case, and a spokesman for the city of Galveston has not yet made an official position on the case, ABC reported.
