A 32-year-old man was arrested for an attempted homicide in Le Mans (Sarthe) on Friday evening, reports France Bleu Maine.

He is suspected of having stabbed a 25-year-old man three times, in the middle of the street, around 6.30 p.m.

The victim, taken care of by the emergency services for injuries to the flanks, was in intensive care on Saturday "in serious condition", the prosecutor said in a statement.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the aggressor wanted to defend his partner who was being annoyed.

The latter, who had also been arrested, was left free on Saturday at the end of her police custody.

The man, known to the police, was drunk at the time of his arrest.
