Two dead in the explosion of a fuel tank in the Lebanese capital, Beirut

An explosion was heard this evening, Friday, in the Abu Shaker neighborhood in the Tarik Al Jadida area in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

The Lebanese Red Cross confirmed that the explosion caused two deaths and a number of wounded.

Lebanese media reported that preliminary information indicated that the explosion resulted from a fire in a tank of "diesel" at the bottom of a building in the Tariq Al-Jadida area, which led to a fire in the building, cracking it and damaging a number of neighboring buildings.

She added that the firefighting teams are working to extinguish the fire caused by the explosion and are working to evacuate the apartments surrounding the scene of the accident.
