  • Protests: The King is locked up for independence in Barcelona

Demonstrators summoned by Òmnium, the ANC, JxCat, ERC and other entities and unions have formed a human chain in the vicinity of the Francia station in Barcelona to protest the presence of King Felipe VI to preside over the Barcelona New Economy awards ceremony Week (BNEW).

The human chain (in which people keep a safe distance and do not shake hands) goes from Pla de Palau -where the police cordon that prevents approaching França station- to the Columbus Monument, to "make it clear that Felipe VI is not welcome and Catalonia has no king. "

The participants carried pro-independence flags and posters with the slogan 'A Catalunya no tenim rei' (In Catalonia we do not have a king), as well as banners in solidarity with the prisoners of 1-O.

The Francia station area is shielded by a large Mossos d'Esquadra device that prevents you from approaching the area, from the Pla de Palau, in Marquès de l'Argentera, to the access to the Ciutadella park.

On the other hand, some 200 people have gathered at around 10 a.m. at the Arc de Triomf, summoned by the CDR, to protest against the visit of the King and the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to Barcelona, and around 10.15 a.m. started walking.

The CDRs have changed the place of the protest after a strong police device has shielded the Francia station, where the act attended by Sánchez and Felipe VI is being held.

In announcing the change of venue, the CDRs have criticized in a tweet "the restrictions on the right to demonstrate," reports Europa Press.

The King and Sánchez will preside together the BNEW awards ceremony, organized by the Consortium of the Barcelona Free Zone (CZFB), an event focused on economic recovery, and with the already announced absence of representatives of the Government and the mayor of Barcelona , Ada Colau.

Sánchez goes to Barcelona although he has also convened an Extraordinary Council of Ministers to address the situation in Madrid due to the coronavirus, since in principle it will be the first vice president, Carmen Calvo, who will preside over that Extraordinary Council.
