Unusual fatal accident.

Firefighters intervened Thursday evening, around 11 p.m., for a collision involving a cyclist and a passenger vehicle on the ring road at the interchange between the A25 and the A1, near the Faidherbe high school.

When help arrived, the victim was lying on the emergency lane.

She was in cardio-respiratory arrest and undergoing resuscitation by witnesses, according to firefighters.

Despite the rescue attempts, the young man, aged 20, was declared dead at the scene by the SMUR doctor.

An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the accident and find the driver.

Increase in accidents involving cyclists

Another accident occurred Thursday afternoon in Petite-Forêt, near Valenciennes.

She is a 16-year-old girl on a bicycle who ended up in hospital after being hit by an 89-year-old driver.

The latter had not respected the safety distances when passing.

The cyclist's days are not in danger.

The number of road accidents involving bicycles is on the rise, according to the departmental directorate of public security.

The practice has increased in recent months, and an association of cyclists is calling for more safety.
