A new record.

More than 20,000 new cases of contamination were recorded in 24 hours, according to figures from Public Health France published Friday, October 9.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care increased slightly on Friday, according to the health agency.

A total of 1,439 people are in intensive care, or 21 more than the day before, yet another record since May.

New intensive care admissions, one of the other important indicators for monitoring the evolution of the epidemic, since the main issue is to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed by a massive influx of patients, are also on the rise with 150 patients, 36 more than the day before.

At the height of the epidemic, at the beginning of April, more than 7,000 patients were hospitalized in these services, mainly those who needed to be placed on artificial respiration.

This number then fell sharply until the end of July, then evolved in a range of between 350 and 400 patients until the end of August, before resuming in constant increase.

The current national capacity is around 5,000 intensive care beds.

32,630 deaths in total

Hospital stays, which also include somewhat milder forms of the disease, continue to increase continuously (7,843, +240 compared to the previous day), including 848 new admissions.

20,339 new cases of contamination with the novel coronavirus have been detected in the past 24 hours, a record since the use of large-scale tests.

The test positivity rate (proportion of positive people out of all of the people tested) continues to increase and for the first time exceeds 10%, to 10.4%.

In the last 24 hours, 62 people have died from Covid, bringing the total of deaths in hospitals or nursing homes since the start of the epidemic to at least 32,630.

Faced with the deterioration of the situation, the government announced on Thursday the passage over the weekend of Grenoble, Saint-Étienne, Lyon and Lille to the maximum alert zone.

These cities thus join Aix-Marseille and Paris at this alert level, synonymous in particular with closed bars and restaurants which must limit their reception.
