During the spring, the number of wildlife accidents on the country's roads decreased, the decrease was greatest in this part of the country.

- We think it's because of the corona pandemic that broke out then.

There was less traffic on the roads and you were not allowed to go to your summer cottages, says Mats Berg who is the county police responsible in the national wildlife accident council in Kalmar county and Kronoberg county.

At the top of the list

Now that autumn is here, the number of accidents is as many as they usually are.

Kalmar County and Kronoberg County end up in places one and two in the wildlife accident statistics.

- In the southern parts of Kalmar County, it is mostly deer accidents, around 65 percent are deer.

In the northern parts of the county there are deer.

There, fallow deer account for many of the wildlife accidents.

The accidents with moose and wild boar are a little less, but there are about the same number of both.

Scout the terrain

Mats Berg advises those who are out driving on the roads to keep a little track of the terrain.

- Where the forest edges come after a field or where there are watercourses, it is good to be a little extra attentive at the roadside because that is where the game goes.

In the event of a wildlife accident, it is always important to call 112, both to call for help if needed and for hunters to be able to come to the scene and take care of the animal hit.
