The head of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, confirmed that his government is in a state of full alert and preparedness, and the Ministry of Defense announced the highest levels of readiness, after receiving information indicating that the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar might attack a number of cities in the west of the country.

Al-Sarraj pointed out - in a speech on the occasion of the National Police Day in Libya - that despite the great losses that the country incurred and its systematic destruction, this was not enough for some to resort to peace, adding that the crisis situation in Libya has regional and international dimensions and interests that are not hidden by anyone. .

For his part, Defense Minister Salah al-Din al-Nimroush sent an urgent telegram to the General Staff of the Army, in which he said that the information received by his ministry indicated that Haftar's forces might attack the cities of Bani Walid, Gharyan and Tarhuna.

Al-Nimroush called on the army chief of staff, the commander of the military regions and the joint operations room in the western region, to take all measures to repel and prevent any possible attack by Haftar's forces, with utmost caution and caution.

In statements published by the media center for the "Volcano of Anger" operation, Al-Nimroosh said that the Libyan forces are fully prepared and awaiting instructions from the Supreme Commander, Fayez al-Sarraj, to deal and respond to the sources of fire in the appropriate place and time.

He affirmed the Libyan army’s commitment to the truce sponsored by the international community, and that it is committed to a ceasefire, "because we aspire to build a civil, democratic state."

He indicated that the ministry supports the political process, and will not give up on Sirte, Al-Jufrah, or any inch of Libya, and that they are proceeding to fully restore control of Libyan soil.

Since last August 21, a ceasefire has prevailed in Libya, according to two simultaneous statements by the Presidential Council of the Libyan government and the Tobruk Parliament (east) that supports Haftar, but the Libyan army announced that Haftar's militia violated the ceasefire more than once.

Berlin conference outcomes

Meanwhile, the Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord renewed - yesterday, Thursday - its adherence to the outcomes of the Berlin Conference on resolving the crisis in the country.

This came in a statement issued by the council, after its meeting in the presence of its president, Fayez Al-Sarraj, and his deputy, Ahmed Maitiq, in the capital, Tripoli.

The statement indicated that the meeting discussed the current political, security and military situation, as a general assessment of the regional and international positions towards the Libyan crisis was made.

He also stressed the importance of the political, security and economic process in the country, according to the outcomes of the Berlin conference, according to the same statement.

On January 19, the Berlin Conference on Libya brought together 12 countries, including Turkey, and 4 international and regional organizations.

The conference concluded with results, including the necessity of adhering to the cease-fire decision, and the formation of a military committee to confirm and monitor the decision, including 5 representatives from each of the parties to the conflict.
