A bill allowing in particular the legal extension of the period of recourse to abortion from 12 to 14 weeks received a first green light from the Assembly on Thursday evening.

The National Assembly on Thursday evening gave the first green light to a bill which notably allows the extension of the legal deadline for resorting to abortion, by 86 votes in favor and 59 against, after heated discussions. Supported by the EDS group (Ecology, Democracy, Solidarity), the text was debated under the rolling fire of critics from the right, as part of a "niche" reserved for this political group. The text, supported by the left and the LREM group, was considered a "sensitive" subject by the government, which limited itself to relying on the "wisdom" of deputies. It is now the Senate's turn to consider it.
