The decomposing body discovered Monday in Centuri in Haute-Corse is that of Damien Barchilon, a 33-year-old night establishment manager who has been missing since the beginning of September, according to statements from the Bastia public prosecutor, Arnaud Viornery.

The victim was last seen on September 9 in Tomino, a neighboring village of Centuri in Cap Corse.

On September 10, the young man's car was found by the side of the road in Meria, a 15-minute drive from Tomino.

The ignition keys were still on the dashboard.

The privileged criminal track

Because of the "circumstances of its discovery", "the criminal track" is privileged.

The body, discovered by a hunter, was in "a state of advanced decomposition and buried under leaves" on the wild heights of the village of 220 inhabitants, according to a source close to the file questioned Monday.

The investigation for “intentional homicide”, initially entrusted to the research section of the gendarmerie, was the subject of “a relinquishment” in favor of the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction of Marseille (JIRS), competent in matters serious organized crime, added the prosecutor.
