The latest coronavirus report in France shows 32,521 deaths in France and 18,129 new cases since the last tally.

In addition, the test positivity rate is increasing strongly and now reaches 9.8%, against 4.5% a month ago.

More than 18,000 positive cases, 77 deaths and an increase in the number of patients hospitalized in intensive care (above 1,400): the indicators of the Covid-19 epidemic have once again deteriorated in 24 hours, according to data on Thursday of Public Health France.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care increased slightly on Thursday, according to the health agency.

A total of 1,418 people are in intensive care, twelve more than the day before, a new record since May.

18,129 new cases in 24 hours

New intensive care admissions, one of the other important indicators for monitoring the evolution of the epidemic, since the main issue is to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed by a massive influx of patients, are down, with 114 patients or 29 less than the day before.

At the peak of the epidemic, in early April, more than 7,000 patients were hospitalized in these departments, mainly those who needed to be placed on artificial respiration.

This number then fell sharply until the end of July, then evolved in a range of between 350 and 400 patients until the end of August, before resuming a constant increase.

The current national capacity is around 5,000 intensive care beds.

18,129 new cases of contamination by the coronavirus have been detected in the past 24 hours, a near record level.

The test positivity rate (proportion of positive people out of all those tested) continues to increase, to 9.8%, against around 4.5% a month ago.

32,521 dead

In the last 24 hours, 77 people have died from Covid, bringing the total of deaths in hospitals or nursing homes since the start of the epidemic to more than 32,521.

These figures were published shortly after new announcements from the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, who places new cities, Lyon, Lille, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne on maximum alert from Saturday.

The incidence rate of Covid-19 stands at 116 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the test positivity rate (proportion of positive people out of all those tested) is increasing to 9% against around 1% during the deconfinement, he said.
