Cameroon: the noose tightens around Maurice Kamto's MRC

Cameroonian opponent Maurice Kamto is still stranded in his residence in Yaoundé.

As for the hundreds of demonstrators who had been arrested on September 22, but most were released.

Nevertheless, a hundred are being pursued and the charges are heavy.

Maurice Kamto's lawyers filed Monday, October 5, a request to ask the courts to order

the lifting of the blockade

The request was immediately rejected.

The lawyers now plan to subpoena authorities for "

".

Heavy loads for a hundred opponents

According to their last census, 250 demonstrators have been presented to the judges in recent days, a hundred are being prosecuted for " 

terrorism, insurrection, hostility towards the Fatherland

 ", about fifty are still in custody.

It is the military court which prosecuted them whereas they are all civilians in violation of our texts

 ", regrets the defender of the human rights Philippe Nanga.

If they are prosecuted, it is not only because they demonstrated without authorization,"

explains a minister.

We must remember the objective of these marches which was the departure of President Paul Biya

 ”.

Facts which fall within the competence of the military court, according to him.

As for the case of Maurice Kamto, he points out that the police are on the public highway.

At no time did they enter his home.

For their part, Alain Fogué, the treasurer of the MRC, and Bibou Nissack, the spokesperson, are still in administrative custody at Sed, the Secretary of State for Defense.

They have not yet been presented to the judges and are not yet formally charged.
