The German hero of the 2014 World Cup final, Mario Götze (ex-Dortmund), signed a two-year contract with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, which announced the transfer late on Tuesday night.

Götze, scorer who offered the title of world champion to Germany in the final against Argentina (1-0 after extra time) at the Brazilian World Cup, was out of contract in Dortmund, where he had not played only a minor role last season under Lucien Favre (5 starts and 10 entries as wildcard in the Bundesliga).

At 28, he has not found a club in the Bundesliga ready to welcome him, despite speculation in recent days about a possible transfer to Hertha Berlin.

He therefore chose Eindhoven, 24 times champion of the Netherlands.

Being without a club since his contract at Dortmund ended, Götze could be hired after the end of transfer periods in Europe, and was therefore not under pressure to make up his mind quickly.

Presented as a potential future Ballon d'Or at the age of 22 at the end of the Brazilian World Cup, this attacking midfielder has seen his career gradually bogged down.

After three disappointing years at Bayern Munich, where he never managed to win, he returned in 2016 to his home club Dortmund.

Götze also lost his place in the national team.

His 63rd and last selection dates back to November 2017 (2-2 in a friendly against France in Cologne).
