Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is subpoenaed again over Libya's political donation case

According to several French media including Agence France-Presse, on the 6th local time, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was once again subpoenaed by the investigating judge in Paris over the case of political donations to Libya.

Prior to this, Sarkozy went to the French judicial police anti-corruption department for the first time on March 20, 2018 for the incident, and was detained for 48 hours at that time.

The French judiciary subsequently decided to formally investigate its case, and Sarkozy has repeatedly asked the Paris Court of Appeal to terminate the investigation.

During this period, Sarkozy has remained silent on the judicial department.

Until September 24, 2020, the Paris Court of Appeal officially ruled that the investigation is valid and can continue.

In April 2012, French online media Mediapart disclosed a confidential Libyan document.

Documents show that the Libyan government governed by Gaddafi in December 2006 was suspected of providing Sarkozy with 50 million euros to fund his 2007 presidential election.

In April 2013, the French side opened a judicial investigation on the matter.

So far, no evidence has been found for Sarkozy's acceptance of political donations.
