On October 6, local time, the WTO released an update on global trade forecasts. WTO Deputy Director-General Yi Xiaozhun said that the impact of the new crown pneumonia crisis on trade varies greatly from region to region. The decline in trade volume in Asia is relatively moderate, while that in Europe North America's trade contraction has been even greater.

The continued demand for some products also partially explained the better-than-expected trade performance in the first half of this year.

Among them, the trade volume of medical rescue materials has surged, and the trade of electronic products and information services has also continued to grow.

Barbara Andrea Adrian, a senior economist at the World Trade Organization, said that global exports of personal protective equipment increased by 49% in the first half of this year, and its trade volume is expected to reach 98 billion US dollars, of which nearly 44% comes from China.

In the first half of the year, the global trade in masks is expected to reach 71 billion US dollars, an increase of 87% year-on-year, of which 57% comes from China.

Coleman Ni, a senior economist at the World Trade Organization, said that China's import demand has maintained regional trade, and exports have performed better than expected.

In the first half of this year, intraregional trade in Asia fell by 6% year-on-year, but China’s imports from other Asian countries fell by only 1%. China supported intraregional trade in Asia.

Excluding China, intraregional trade in Asia fell by 9%.

China is not only outstanding in exports, but also in imports to contribute to global demand.

Barbara Andrea Adrian, a senior WTO economist, also said that when other economies are still in trouble, China has already recovered.

China is the largest tourism consumer. Some of the least developed countries in Asia have benefited from Chinese tourists, and these countries are now suffering from the loss of a large number of Chinese tourists.

China will play a role in the recovery of tourism in LDCs, especially for LDCs in Asia.
