The central government has accepted Madrid's explanations about the improvement in the numbers of coronavirus infections at the bilateral meeting of the Covid-19 Group held today at the regional government headquarters, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

"They have misunderstood us," the Health Minister and Fernando Simón assured during the meeting,

where they accepted the figures as good.

At the meeting, which lasted around two hours, the regional vice president, Ignacio Aguado (Cs);

the Minister of Health, Enrique Ruiz Escudero (PP);

the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa;

and the Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Function, Carolina Darias.

The meeting was the first bilateral meeting that was held after the Government imposed the closure of Madrid last Friday and after the Government questioned the Madrid data, which has caused a new day of tension, with crossed statements.

According to the official count published yesterday by the Ministry of Health, Madrid has notified 207 infected, a figure very far from the 814 registered in the region last Friday.

The death rate during this period of time has also decreased in Madrid, as it has accumulated 70 deaths, almost half of those counted on Friday, which were 156. And the accumulated incidence has fallen since Friday, which has gone from 647 to 586.

As this media reported yesterday, the measures of the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso in 37 of the health areas with the highest incidence of the virus are beginning to bear fruit, since the incidence in 31 of those areas has fallen by almost 25%.

The data were questioned by Health.

The epidemiologist Fernando Simón attributed the drop in new infections in Madrid to the delay in notifications.

At the press conference to present the situation of the pandemic in Spain, Simón assured that it is normal for "greater delays" to occur when transmitting epidemiological data, when there is an increase in the accumulated incidence due to "pressure about the people "who have to make these notifications.
