Faithful to the line he has adopted for months, Donald Trump, who is going "very well" according to his doctor, minimized, on Tuesday October 6, the threat of Covid-19, ensuring that the seasonal flu killed more people than the coronavirus in some cases.

In a very brief health bulletin released on Tuesday, his doctor Sean Conley assured that he now had "no symptoms" of Covid-19.

"He spent a restful first night at home. [...] Overall, he continues to be doing very well".

"I FEEL GOOD!" Tweeted the US president, saying he was eager to debate again on October 15 with his Democratic opponent Joe Biden.

I am looking forward to the debate on the evening of Thursday, October 15th in Miami.

It will be great!

Less than a month before the poll, Donald Trump is playing, tweets and videos in support, the card of the fearless leader having tamed the virus and calling on his compatriots not to let the Covid-19 "dominate" them.

Beyond the avalanche of criticism that this speech arouses within the medical profession, it could be difficult to hear in a country which has just crossed the barrier of 210,000 dead.

Covid-19 will be the third leading cause of death in the United States in 2020.

Messages removed by Facebook and Twitter

Criticized since the start of the pandemic for his rough messages, his approximations or his lack of empathy, the president seems determined not to change the register.

“The seasonal flu is coming!” He tweeted on his first wake-up call in the White House after three days at Walter Reed's military hospital.

"Are we going to shut down our country? No, we have learned to live with it, the same way we learn to live with the Covid, which in most people is much less fatal!", He said added, ignoring the numbers.

Flu season is coming up!

Many people every year, sometimes over 100,000, and despite the Vaccine, die from the Flu.

Are we going to close down our Country?

No, we have learned to live with it, just like we are learning to live with Covid, in most populations far less lethal !!!

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 6, 2020

The same message was also posted on Facebook, which decided to delete it completely.

"We are removing the incorrect information on the severity of Covid-19 and we have removed this post," said a spokesperson for the social media giant.

Twitter, for its part, simply masked the tweet with a message explaining that it was breaking network rules on "misleading and potentially dangerous information related to Covid-19".

It remains readable by clicking on it, because "Twitter has decided it may be in the public interest to keep the tweet accessible."

According to US health authorities, seasonal flu has never, during the past decade, reached the milestone of 100,000 deaths in a year.

Donald Trump facing the specter of defeat

For his return to the White House on Monday evening, Donald Trump opted for a grand staging, and reminded America and the world of his taste for provocation.

Immediately after getting off the helicopter, he climbed the steps to the balcony of his residence.

There, he adjusted his jacket, removed his mask and raised his thumbs, in a strange gesture of defiance as cases of Covid-19 in his entourage multiply.

>> To see: Donald Trump positive for Covid-19, the campaign disrupted?

Its political future is, for the time being, loaded with threatening signals.

As the November 3 election approaches, the curves are worrying for the 45th President of the United States, who fears becoming that of a single term, unlike his three predecessors: Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton .

According to the latest CNN / SSRS poll released Tuesday morning, he is now 16 points behind (41% against 57% of voting intentions) compared to Joe Biden.

An NBC / WSJ poll released on Sunday put him 14 points behind his Democratic rival.

And if we look at the map of key states likely to tip the election to one side or the other, the lead is less clear, but it is real, and constant.
