New crown epidemic slows down New Zealand's largest city lowers epidemic response level

Xinhua News Agency, Wellington, October 5 (Reporter Lu Huaiqian and Guo Lei) New Zealand Prime Minister Ardern announced on the 5th that after the cabinet discussed and decided that due to the control of the new crown epidemic, the response level of the country's largest city, Auckland, will start at 23:59 on the 7th. Will be reduced from the current level 2 to level 1.

By then, New Zealand will be in a level 1 response state and social and economic activities will basically return to normal.

According to data from the New Zealand Ministry of Health, one new confirmed case in New Zealand on the 5th was an imported case in an isolation facility.

At present, there are 179 confirmed cases in Auckland, and there is only one new case in 14 days, indicating that the risk of community transmission has decreased.

So far, a total of 1,499 confirmed cases and 25 deaths have been confirmed across New Zealand.

With a population of about 5 million, New Zealand is one of the countries that adopted early and stricter measures to contain the new crown epidemic.

After basically controlling the epidemic nationwide, another community-transmitted case was found in Auckland in August, and the New Zealand government has accordingly raised the local and national epidemic response levels.

Since then, the epidemic has slowed down, and the response level in other regions except Auckland has been reduced from level 2 to level 1 from 23:59 on September 21.

Under the level 1 status of the epidemic prevention response, restrictions on enterprises such as the need to maintain a table-to-table distance in the catering industry will be cancelled; churches, gymnasiums, community sports centers and funerals can all be resumed; public transportation will also be cancelled Social distancing requirements, masks are no longer mandatory.

However, the government will still implement border controls to reduce the risk of imported cases.

Ardern urges people to continue to be vigilant, wash their hands frequently, stay at home and get tested for the virus if they feel unwell.

She emphasized that it cannot be considered that a drop to level 1 means that New Zealand is no longer new coronavirus, it just means that there is no sign at present.
