The Lithuanian Foreign Minister began an eight-day quarantine after meeting, during the recent visit of French President Emmanuel Macron, a representative of the French Embassy who has since tested positive for Covid-19, announced on Monday the ministry in Vilnius.

Linas Linkevicius "will isolate himself this week because he had close contact" with this official, said his spokesman Rasa Jakilaitiene.

She later added that the minister's test result was negative but he would continue his quarantine.

Cases at the French Embassy

The French Embassy in Vilnius confirmed that two staff members had tested positive, but that those from the French delegation visiting Lithuania all tested negative.

All the delegation coming from Paris tested negative before departure and all the necessary precautions were observed during the visit ”, declared the spokesman of the embassy, ​​Sami Fisek.

A source in the French presidency said that Emmanuel Macron himself had not had any contact with those who tested positive.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and his wife have also been tested for the virus after coming into contact with one of the infected French officials.

Their tests came back negative.
