Yusuf and his lawyer repeatedly appealed to the police that the family, consisting of parents, grandmother and nine siblings, were not safe in Skäggetorp in Linköping because relatives could be targeted for helping the police.

According to the police, the family was not considered to be in danger.

SVT has taken part in a conversation where Yusuf says that he worries about the safety of relatives and receives the following answer from the police:

- We have no concrete facts that say that they will be subjected to any form of violence.

This is something you can guess at.

But we do not have it.

In the conversation, Yusuf asks the police where his family should go.

He gets the answer that the police can not arrange a home.

Yusuf's plaintiff's assistant Evin Cetin breaks into the conversation and questions the police's actions.

- He does not want a home.

He wants protection until they can get help on how to handle it.

They are in an emergency situation.

A few weeks after the conversation, his cousin was shot dead in one of the family's homes in Skäggetorp.

- That was what we were worried about all the time, says Yusuf.

SVT has, via the police chief and the Linköping police spokesperson, contacted the police, who commented in the telephone conversation.

Yusuf and his family members today live with protected information in a secret location.

The siblings have paused their studies at university, the parents have been forced to quit their jobs.

The future is uncertain.

Personal protection responds to criticism

Sara Alsander is head of Bops in Linköping.

SVT plays part of the audio recording for her.

- It is extremely unfortunate when someone is exposed to deadly violence, of course.

Bops does not share the description that is made, but does not want to comment in detail why.

Have you misjudged the threat in this case?

- We must assess our measures and adapt them to what we know at the time the assessment takes place.

What did you miss here because this could happen?

- I can not go into details in the ongoing case, but all our work is based on valued risks.
