42.4% of Al Ain school students suffer from obesity

Tawam Hospital announced that the Community Nutrition Department has conducted a study on the prevalence of overweight and obesity and the risk factors associated with it among school students in the city of Al Ain during the current year, and the results of the study stated that the prevalence of obesity and obesity among students in Al Ain is 42.4%.

The hospital stated that the study included a sample of 1611 students between the ages of 10 and 18 from the city of Al Ain, noting that the results of the study showed that the prevalence of obesity and obesity among school students in the city of Al Ain reached 42.4%, stressing that this rate is high.

The hospital said that factors such as insufficient sleep duration, and other lifestyle factors, such as advanced age, physical inactivity, time in front of TV, video games and smart devices, parents' living and educational status, and dietary behaviors, contribute significantly to overweight and obesity in the UAE.

The study warned that obesity is a serious health problem in childhood and adolescence.
