Heaps of charred debris and columns of smoke.
After the fire that ravaged the
Dakar
market
, nothing remains of Pak Lambaye.
This Sunday, a few traders came to see the extent of the losses.
The fire lasted all night but caused no casualties.
It triggered around 9 p.m. Saturday night and was not brought under control until 6:42 a.m. this morning.
It took ten machines and the mobilization of 102 firefighters to overcome it.
According to the emergency services on the spot, the fire started in a wood storage space before reaching all the shops.
For the moment, we do not know the cause of the fire.
But
this is not the first time that the site has burned down
.
Last January, Pak Lambaye had already been the scene of a fire and
other markets were before him
.
It must be said that in Dakar, these are generally an anarchic and dilapidated assembly of canteens and electric cables.
This poses serious security problems and has prompted the authorities to carry out market renovations since 2019.
